The organization uses the team sport of ultimate Frisbee as the framework for providing youth 6 to 18 years old with increased opportunities, confidence, communication abilities, social emotional development, and conflict-resolution skills. Through high-impact direct service programs, in-person mentorship, and community development, Ultimate Impact works to create positive change for youth in our communities.

About the Opportunity

Ultimate Impact (www.ultimate-impact.org) is growing its team in San Francisco, Oakland, and beyond. The Coaching and Leadership Program Manager and Coach position is full-time, exempt, in-person, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is responsible for managing the CAL program and helping develop programs to strengthen our community connections, support players, manage staff development, and drive the expansion of Ultimate Impact’s programs to serve more youth. The position will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing weekly training sessions as a sports coach in schools and teams at Ultimate Impact locations.  

Responsibilities

Coaching and Leadership (CAL) Program: The CAL Program is a young-adult leadership and career development program designed for TAY (Transitional Aged Youth 18-24) participants. Participants will get an opportunity to coach for Ultimate Impact as well as access potential career development opportunities. In this role you will be directly responsible for managing and growing this program with support from senior leadership.

  • Program and Curriculum Development: Launch and expand the CAL program by developing program goals, KPIs, and program evaluations in addition to working with the team to create a strong career development curriculum schedule to support participants growth.

  • Participant Recruitment: Work with youth workforce development agencies throughout SF and Oakland to recruit potential participants as well as provide workshops or support for participants professional growth.

  • Career Development - Work with CAL participants on a variety of career development and job workforce skills. Some of these skills include communication and interpersonal skills, time management and organization, critical thinking and problem solving, personal branding and online presence management, conflict resolution and negotiation, and many more. The goal being to highlight and provide the tools needed to empower participants to be confident to take the next step in their professional careers. 

  • Revenue Generation:  This program will generate earned revenue for Ultimate Impact by partnering with select schools (which we charge) to build ultimate programs coached and led by CaL participants. We also see revenue opportunities in other areas like leading professional development training sessions. Our expectation for this role is to explore and develop other revenue ideas alongside our development team. 

Coaching and Mentorship:  Lead and manage weekly training sessions at schools as a sports coach. Create an environment where all youth have fun and are encouraged to participate. 

  • Relationship Building:  Feel comfortable being a mentor for youth and the ability to create positive relationships with parents, teachers, and administrators.

  • Community Organizer: Be the main point of contact with families and school partners to support youth participation including communication with families, collecting waivers and forms, coordinating transportation, and home visits as needed.

  • Community Partnerships: Build relationships with schools and other organizations that youth are a part of in order to strengthen participants’ support networks as well as recruit new participants into the CAL program.

Team Leadership

  • Management: Manage a growing team, leveraging their skills as coaches and coordinators, to deliver projects on a timeline. 

  • Staff Development and Evaluation: Support career development of direct reports in a way that invests in staff as people and inspires them to grow. This includes formally evaluating the skills and performance of staff as well as providing ongoing feedback and support.

  • Leadership: Motivate and inspire the team and CAL participants to set and meet organizational goals as well as our Ultimate Impact mission.

Program Management: Ability to expand, strengthen, and coordinate events to deepen the level of participation for youth across our schools and programs in San Francisco both directly and supervising coordinators.

  • Event Planning and Execution: Coach and coordinate scrimmages and practices, which includes coordinating with program partners and school administrators.  The position will also support the planning and execution of several community events.

  • Administration and Data Management: Support staff to manage and maintain systems including Salesforce records and other documentation year-round to ensure that programs run smoothly. Conduct onsite interviews and collect survey data.

  • Fundraising: Assist Development team with fundraising and revenue-generating events/projects as needed.

We’re Looking for Someone Who Has

  • Experience working with youth and young adults ages 7 to 24.

  • Experience with or interest in playing and coaching ultimate Frisbee.

  • A connection with the youth and communities where we coach.

  • Experience with or interest in supervising staff professionally and developing their skills.

  • The ability to manage KPIs (key performance indicators) for yourself and staff in order to help Ultimate Impact achieve its strategic goals.

  • Ability to be flexible and handle constantly changing environments with enthusiasm and grace by remaining calm, productive and positive.

  • Deep empathy, the ability to manage emotions, and have a growth mindset.

  • Ability to work some evenings and some weekends for events.

  • Desire to work hard and create new ideas for programs coupled with time and task management practices to bring ideas to life.

  • Facilitation skills include the ability to read a group at the start of a training and lead a series of structured learning opportunities.

  • Determination and the desire to work through tough challenges.

  • Demonstrated ability to spot a need and address it.

  • Ability to maintain high standards of performance, demeanor and appearance at all times.

Salary

Starting salary range: $65,000 to $78,000, Commensurate with experience.
